I bought the 1st generation digital calipers back in 1989. After 25 years of hard use the 6" digital calipers passed away 🙁 so why break tradition and buy a different brand. Mitutoyo IMO is better with digital than any other company out there as well as Starrett.



Got tired of the cheap calipers i was using. This one is correct, repeatable, and clearly well built. The only thing that’s driving me nutz is that it doesn’t have an auto-shutoff feature. I use it, forget to turn it off, 2 days afterward pick it up, and it was on all the time.



If you are looking for a long lasting, tough and exact caliper.. This is it. Long lasting: I have had my Mitutoyo caliper for just under 4 years now without a hitchSturdy: I attempt to treat my measuring devices as carefully as I can but on occasion things just happen. I had to replace the same caliper one time in just over 8 years because I dropped it onto cement and bent the tip of the metal. It still works great but calibrating a broken device is frowned upon. Exact: My caliper was calibrated today and still passed with flying colors. 4 years afterward and the thing was totally dead on to a 0. 0005" tolerance. I have never seen or heard of a better hand-held caliper than this one. Sure you may pay a bit extra for this Mitutoyo caliper but there is a reason for it. If you generally leave it on the battery still lasts for months. If you turn it off all the time when you are not using it I am sure you could stretch a year out of it based on how much you use it. Great product .
