Recent reviews of Anova Culinary Precision Cooker (Black):

I have both the Precision and the original Anova One. Both are excellent at maintaining temperature +/- < 1. 0 F and circulating water over long multi day cooks. I double checked the temp accuracy with a Thermapen. The major differences are the Precision is smaller, height adjustable, and the user controls. I like the height modification so shallower containers may be used. The Precision has a touch screen and thumbwheel. The wheel can be used to change the temp and time and works good. Interface may be better. To turn on the timer I have to hold down the touchscreen start/stop button for 8 secs. Unfortunately holding the same button down for 3 secs toggles between F and C. The timer defaults to "off" when unplugged, so it gets kind of annoying to have to go through this procedure every time. There’s Bluetooth control through an iOS app. But only if your device is BT 4. 0 LE (doesn’t work with iPad 2 or iPhone 4 and earlier). No official Android app still. The app lets the user control temp and time through the device and also has some number of recipes with suggested cook times and temps. But, if you have seen the Anova video promoting the Precision, the app isn’t quite as advanced as depicted in the video. It is more like a list of recipes with suggested cook times. I never use the app. The timer just alarms, the unit continues to preserve the temp and circulation. If power is lost, the Precision just shuts off, when power is resumed. The Precision is a great value at 179 (less if Anova is running a discount code). The real difference between the Anova One and Precision is the bigger One can handle a bigger water bath, however the Precision may be adjusted for shallower containers. Both are excellent devices for the price.



I love this gadget. I have been meaning to get into sous vide cooking for a several years, when my stepdaughter and her husband 1st started using the technique. But they had to go through lots of maker-style cobbling up of pieces and parts to do it,and I can not do lots of "cobbling" these days. So I was waiting for a neat, self-contained solution that did not cost an arm and a leg. This immersion circulator is just the thing. Immersion heaters have been around for decades – a metal (typically aluminum) coil on a little handle you dunked into a cup of water in a hotel room, plugged in, and it quickly boils your water for tea or instant coffee. They are not the safest devices to use, although, because the old-style immersion heaters were just an exposed heating coil. This cooker is totally safe and easy to use. The immersion coil is inside a stainless-steel skirt, where it can not contact anything it may melt or burn. There are many thermocouple sensors around the coil,to monitor the temperature of the coil, and the temperature of the water it is engulfed in from two separated points. Also, there is a powerful but tiny circulating impeller – like a small ship propeller – pointing down. There is a movable cap at the bottom that redirects the flow from this little propeller, to move the hot water around in your cooking tub. It is calm, however there is still a sort of bubbling hum as it works. It comes with a really groundbreaking double clamp, with one handle to clamp the clamp to your cooking vessel, and a second handle to secure the cooker in the clamp. It is good looking, lasting, and holds the cooker rock-steady. The cooker is about the size of a stick blender and about as easy to use.

Here are the pros and cons so far:Pros:-Great packaging and protection-simple easy to use device; set the temperature and click start. -basic easy to follow instruction manual-when using correct cooking temperature for the food being prepared, food comes out PERFECT-common clamp can clamp onto many things that are less than 1" thick-with sous vide overall, SUPER easy clean upcons-No official android app; though there are some unofficial apps in the Play store. I just use a timer on my phone. -clamp design may be better; I am no design expert so I can not pinpoint why, however it may be better. -power cord may be longer but it works for me. -manual is pretty simple/basic; may have offered a basic temperature cooking guide for different foods, however it does not have anything like that. You may be able to go to the web site and they offer a guide there. Info:-im experimenting with different coolers (for better heat retention and less evaporation) to see which one will be my permanent water bath device; so far a 28 quart cooler is WAY too big, takes 15 – 20 minutes just to get temperature up to 138 for medium rare steak. – I think a 12-16 quart cooler is the most economical size; I am waiting for it to deliver. -finding cooking temperature and time guides may be seen on the company websitefoods cooked so far:-chicken breast boneless skinless – JUICIEST PLUMP chicken breasts ever. completely cooked and no dry spots. I think this will be the only way i cook it now. – Top round sirloin steak boneless – 138F 3 hours (1-4 hours for 1" cut) medium rare; wow amazing. Every single bite.- Roast beef – the 1st meat I bought because it was cheap, turns out roast beef requires 24-48 hours to cook.
